Why do we call thirty-seconds of handshaking “fellowship”?

Because its a more biblical term - even if misapplied - than either “acquaintanceship” or “handshakingship”.

Because it’s as close as way too many of us ever get to real fellowship. As well, it technically meets Merriam Webster’s #4 - “the quality or state of being comradely.” There is no time requirement. We can be “comradely” for 30 seconds, or for three years, and it’s fellowship either way. Also, we have to limit it to a short time so that the church doesn’t break out into a fight… LOL.
