So You Don’t Want to Go to Church Anymore?

In my last post, The Journey, I linked to a post by Wayne Jacobsen over at Lifestream.org. Jacobsen is not a unfamiliar name to me. A few years ago Jacobsen partnered with Dave Coleman to write So You Don’t Want to Go to Church Anymore.

This book is a story of the fictitious character Jake Colsen. Jake is frustrated with “church” when he encounters a man who really challenges him. This book is the story of Jake beginning The Journey and all the struggles that he faces. Although the story is fiction it reflects those things that many experience while on the journey.

So You Don’t Want to Go to Church Anymore is an excellent read. It was one of my favorites in ‘06. I would highly encourage anyone who has started the journey to read this book.

I remember now that I had written about this book after I had originally read it. I wrote the small post on September 1, 2006 called A delayed blessing.

Lew,

As you know, I’ve read this book. I’ve recommended it to a few people. I would not recommend it to just everyone. As you said, I would recommend to someone is has already started the journey and has already started asking questions about the church. I don’t agree with everything in the book, but I do agree with most of it.

You and I have discussed this book in the past. I agree 100%, the book is definitely not for every Christian, though I really wish it was and there are some things that are questionable. But overall, it was an excellent read and very thought provoking.
