Did Jesus Really Resurrect?

Many of you may have seen the headlines of late concerning the Discovery Channel documentary: The Lost Tomb. It is about an archaeological finding of four ossuaries, with the names, Jesus, son of Joseph, Mary (twice), and Judah, son of Jesus. At first glance this finding may seem shaking, especially to our faith. Fret not my friends, for this story is full of holes.

This is just silliness! Even secular scholars and archaeologists say so. I love this in the CNN article:

“Amos Kloner, the first archaeologist to examine the site, said the idea fails to hold up by archaeological standards but makes for profitable television.“

And that’s the truth.

And then there’s this fact that I’ll also quote from the article:

“The fact that it’s been ignored tells you something,” said Dever, professor emeritus at the University of Arizona. “It would be amusing if it didn’t mislead so many people.”

And that’s the sad fact about it … these ossuaries have been known about for years … this “documentary” is simpy going to mislead so many people.

Yes, silliness, absolute silliness. My mother actually made an interesting point (in a private email) about the odd coincidence that this came out during Lent.

Thank you for this post. I’ve been watching this development for a few days, and I’m planning to watch the documentary. I think the most interesting point so far is that scholars and archaeologists dismissed the idea some time ago. But, the people pushing it were able to find a Hollywood director to run with a good story, and a directory known for chasing conspiracies (JFK anyone?). Anyway, I welcome the investigation into the resurrection of Jesus Christ. If it is true (and I believe it is), it will stand all investigation. If the resurrection is not true, then I want to know.
